Listening and Speaking in the additional language

This course is geared towards teachers of English as a foreign language who are working at primary and secondary levels. It aims at enriching in-service teachers’ discourse in English as well as updating their own professional skills as regards the teaching and learning of the oral language abilities: Listening and Speaking. Based on a communicative and intercultural perspective of language, participants will be able to design and plan listening comprehension lessons according to specific teaching-learning contexts, learn a variety of listening comprehension strategies, develop monitoring skills of comprehension processes, design and plan speaking lessons according to learner’s linguistic background, and become familiar with a repertoire of communication strategies, among other teaching skills.

Requisitos

El curso fue diseñado para docentes en ejercicio en el nivel primario o secundario. No obstante, podrán inscribirse otros perfiles interesados en la temática y que cumplan con los siguientes requisitos:

ara poder cursar deberá estar en ejercicio como docente u otro rol con función docente, incluyendo funciones de acompañamiento, orientación o supervisión, en establecimientos educativos de nivel primario o secundario o en institutos de formación docente de nivel primario o secundario (área de inglés) de cualquiera de las jurisdicicones; en equipos técnicos jurisdiccionales o estar inscripto en los listados de orden de mérito para el acceso a la docencia.

Certificación

Si usted tiene título docente, los cursos otorgan certificado y puntaje según las resoluciones 257/15310/16 y 317/17 sus modificatorias y/o adecuaciones normativas juridisccionales.


Programa

Course contents:

  • Unit I: Listening. Oral discourse: characteristics. Real life and classroom listening. Auditory strategies. Top down and Bottom up approaches to listening comprehension. The activation of previous knowledge/schemata. Didactic sequences for a listening lesson. The importance of task and feedback. Monitoring skills of the listening process. Authentic and educational materials. The NTIC and the teaching of oracy.
  • Unit II: Speaking. Communication strategies. Transactional and interactional uses of speech. Communicative functions (greetings, apologies, compliments, invitations, etc.). Speaker’s build up of confidence. Conversational scaffolding. Monitoring skills of oral performance. Cultural awareness. Intercultural communication. Assessment and evaluation of oral skills.
